Un giovane funzionario del Regno viene inviato a indagare sul feudo del Barone di Carini dove vive una Baronessa giovane e bella, il cui destino sembra ripercorrere quello di un'altra nobildonna morte misteriosamente in quegli stessi luoghi tre secoli prima. Le indagini affondano nel mistero, lo sceneggiato procede come un treno nei territori del suspense e del giallo all'italiana.
